Not long now until the Hildreds centre celebrates their famous Christmas Switch On in Skegness on Friday 30th November. The fun starts at 5.30 when the County Linx Bus starts to play some festive tunes to get us all in the Christmas spirit. The Santa Illuminated Christmas Parade will leave Briar Way at 6.15pm and travel up High Street and Down Lumley Rd to the Town Christmas Tree where the stage will be set in readiness for the grand Switch On at 7pm. Joseph Begley and John Marshall from Lincs FM will be our hosts and they will welcome the stars from The Embassy Theatre’s Panto – Cinderella, The Jolly Fisherman, The Mayor of Skegness Cllr Sid Dennis and Santa of course to the stage to switch on the town lights and the Hildreds centre’s award winning Christmas displays.
The Enchanted Cinderella Christmas Grotto will also open on the night where you will walk through a magical life-size pumpkin coach to enter the castle grotto to meet Santa and the Elves. Look out for the 2 Ugly Sisters on your visit as well as for the mice that helped Cinders with her ball gown. The entrance to the Grotto is £5 per child but you receive 2 gifts – one from Santa and another one from the Hildreds and did you know that every penny that is spent in the grotto helps to put on next years Skegness Carnival parade, so not only will you have a great time visiting Santa and receiving 2 great gifts but you will also be helping the Skegness Carnival for another year!
Inside the Hildreds there are lots of things to see and do including seeing Hetti the Yeti and her friends the Hildreds Eskimos – Ernie, Enrie and Eric! you will also be able to see the Hildreds singing reindeer – Zac and Harry who have been learning a new song for you this year but be prepared, Zac isn’t feeling well so his voice might not be quite up to it!
Finally, why not have a photo in our S’Elfie Pod? All you have to do is come along and pop your head through the pod to be instantly transformed into an Elf for Christmas! You can take the photo on your own phones or cameras then if you like take them to Occasions or Max Speilmann in the Hildreds and have them made into a range of unique Christmas gifts such as cushions, jigsaws or even mugs and coasters! You can even print the photo out yourself and send it to your friends and family as a special Christmas card – Come as yourself and leave as an Elf!
After visiting the displays, why not pick up a colouring competition form for a chance to win some fantastic prizes and then post a letter to Santa in Percy the magic post box by Shoe Zone which will fly to the North Pole and you will receive a free reply from Santa posted on the notice board by Superdrug the next day.
The Boston Women’s Aid Giving Tree will also open on the switch on night too. This is a tree that helps to collect toys and gifts for children staying in local hostels over the Christmas period who have had to leave their homes and possessions due to domestic violence.
Saturday 1st December – the day after the Christmas Switch On will be the Skegness Christmas Market with lots and lots to see and do including market stalls to get some special gifts for the whole family as well as sampling some festive food and this year there will also be a fun fair in the street too!
We hope you can join us on Friday 30th November to enjoy the switch on and don’t forget the shops stay open till 9pm but if not we hope you can visit over the Christmas period, bring your family and friends and have some fun in the Hildreds
